Useful Information

In Cyprus, you drive on the left side of the road. Most road signage will be in both Greek and English.

Electricity in Cyprus uses the 240 volt, 3 prong plug socket (same as UK).

The euro is the locale currency. View exchange rates herehere

Transportation

Transportation from Larnaca airport to Nicosia:

  • Larnaca airport shuttle will take you to Kapnos Airport Shuttle terminal in Nicosia. It runs every hour, costs €8 one way and the journey takes about 30-40 minutes. When you exit the secure area, turn left and follow the signs for “airport shuttle.”  Here  you can find the timetables for the Shuttle. From the Kapnos terminal, you can take a taxi to your hotel (approximately €10, depending on location)
  • Taxi 1-4 passengers 43€, 6 passengers 55€, estimated costs
  • Minibus 1-11 passengers 75€
  • Handicap Vehicle 1-4 passengers 80€

Book a taxi in advance according to your flight time here

There are also plenty of car rental places at the airport, in the main arrival hall, after you leave the secure area. If you rent a car, follow the signs to Nicosia/Lefkosia. The journey takes about 30-40 minutes.

Getting to the University:

  • Buses in the summer run infrequently. The bus station at Solomou square is very close to the hotels mentioned above. Timetables available here
  • Taxi is the easiest way to get to the university (for five people will cost around 10-12 euros max and can share)

Accommodation

Participants are responsible for ensuring their own accommodation. We recommend using online booking websites, such as Booking or Expedia which sometimes offer accommodation at discounted rates. We would also suggest reserving your accommodation  as soon as possible and in advance of the tourist season in Cyprus.
